In Kanikay village, Northern Sierra Leone, Salay faced a difficult life after escaping child
marriage. She longed to continue school but felt lost and alone , until Community Solidarity to
Improve Lives (ComSIL) stepped in through our Child Marriage Free Community Project.
Our team and community champions helped Salay re-enroll in school, providing the materials
and encouragement she needed. Today, she’s thriving, regaining her confidence, pursuing her
studies, and dreaming of becoming a teacher to inspire other girls like her.
Salay’s journey from a child marriage survivor to a hopeful student reminds us that education
changes everything.
At ComSIL, we remain grateful to our partners and supporters for restoring hope for girls across
rural Sierra Leone. Together, we can create communities where every girl learns, leads, and
lives free from child marriage.
Celebrating International Day of the Girl Child – IDGC (Oct 11, 2025) in Freetown, Sierra Leone

The #ComSIL Community of Practice, with support from #IrishAid, came together to honor this
year’s global theme: “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crisis.”
We celebrated the resilience, leadership, and courage of girls who are driving change in their
communities, even in the face of challenges.
