ComSIL-SL was founded in October 2022 by Alpha Bakarr Barrie, a passionate teacher from Sierra Leone who grew up in a village with limited access to quality education. Witnessing how untrained teachers affected children’s futures inspired him to become an educator and advocate for change. Determined to make a lasting impact, Alpha further pursued Gender and Development Studies at the University of Sierra Leone and completed UNICEF’s AGORA training on Ending Violence Against Children. Joined by Joseph Tamba Sesay (Finance and Operations Manager) and Kandeh Omega Koroma (Programs Officer), Alpha established ComSIL-SL as a community-driven organization built on solidarity, resilience, and opportunity for all. Since its founding, ComSIL-SL has been committed to empowering children, youth, and communities across Sierra Leone through education, health, protection, and sustainable livelihoods
